The Renault 5 EV Concept

The French Automotive Giant has revealed the Renault 5 EV concept during the unveiling of the ‘Renaulution’ Strategic Plan. The strategy is to get 30% of Renault’s sales from EVs by 2025. For which, the French brand is all set to launch a total of 14 models, including seven fully electric vehicles by 2025. Out of the seven EVs is the Renault 5 EV concept.

A compact electric car with an extra stylish retro aesthetics than the present Renault Zoe electric car. At this point, it can’t be said whether the new Renault 5 EV will replace Renault’s Zoe or not. But one thing Renault’s sure of, is to roll off a production version within three years from now.

Exterior

Taking design and style cues from the Clio’s predecessor that was produced from 1972 to 1996. The Renault 5 EV is no less than a modern car designed to boost its look. Strikingly dissimilar from Renault’s other cars. The Renault 5 EV has a design inspired by the 1970s hatchback, the boxy Renault 5. Similar to its ancestor, the Renault 5 EV has a design with fewer curves but more angular edges.

  • Front-

In the front, the car is equipped with square DRLs (Daytime Running Lights) and an illuminated Renault Logo.

  • Sides-

On the side, the chunky wheel arches make the muscular design of the Renault 5 EV look more prominent. Contrasting window frame trimmed in red and thick side skirts only adds to the muscular look. Inspired by other renowned car manufacturers, it also features hidden door handles.

  • Rear-

In contrast to the front-end, the rear-end of the Renault 5 EV is quite minimalistic. The tail lamps look nice with a distinct LED setup.

Battery and Range

Officially Renault has not shared any information on the electric drive system of the new Renault 5 EV. But many speculate that the electric powertrain will be an improved version of that found in the Renault Zoe EV.

In the battery department, too, the Renault 5 EV is expected to come with a greater range than Renault’s Zoe EV. Notably, Top variant of the ZEO can be recharged to 80% from 0% in about an hour using a 50kWh charger and can drive to a range of 240 miles on a single charge. The stats would be boosted in the new Renault 5 EV.

Based on a similar platform as the upcoming Renault Megane EV. The new Renault 5 EV is a lighter and much smaller car and is sure to deliver a decent range on a single charge.

Interior

Seeing the design language in the latest cars from Renault. You might know what to expect from the interior of the new Renault 5 EV. With features like a free-standing glass infotainment system and an enormous heads-up display, the Renault 5 EV will be a feature-packed Electric Vehicle from Renault.

History

Renault 5 EV is a reincarnated version of the Renault 5. 1972 was the year when the original Renault 5 car was launched. Specially designed to fill the gap between the Citroen 2CV and the Renault 4. By 1980 the original Renault 5 became one of the best-selling cars globally and was a huge success. And in the year 1984, Renault launched the second generation of the Renault 5, which was also known as Supercinq.

Price and Release Date

The Renault 5 EV will be among the seven electric cars that Renault plans to launch by 2025. There’s no official confirmation on the price tag of the Renault 5 EV, but possibly it will not cost more than the £30,000 Renault Zoe.
